The Stanwood-Camano School Board honored student artists and a Shining Star during its regular board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023.

The school board recognized the winners of the district’s annual Anti-Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) poster contest. See some of the winning posters for Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12 below!

In addition, the Port Susan Middle School administration team provided an update on its School Improvement and Action Plan and then presented its Shining Star Award to Isabelle Arneson.

The school board also approved a resolution allowing the admittance of the Stanwood-Camano School District to the Sno-Isle TECHSkills Center Consortium. Read more about this new Career and Technical Education (CTE) partnership HERE.

District staff and school board members also honored outgoing School Board director Natalie Hagglund after eight years serving on the board. Hagglund and director Debbie Bayes did not run for a school board seat this year. The two new directors will be sworn in during the next school board meeting on Dec. 5.

In other business at the meeting:

  • Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh gave a report on the district’s enrollment

  • Executive Director of Business Services Ruth Floyd provided three updates: a year-end financial report, an August 2023 Financial Report, and a September 2023 Financial Report.

  • The school board accepted a $2,915 donation from the Stanwood 4A Booster Club to cover the transportation costs for the Stanwood High football team to travel to the summer 2023 Football Camp at Central Washington University in Ellensburg; $105 from the Elger Bay PTA to purchase playground balls; $130 rebate from Ohioplye Prints to Stanwood High from proceeds of Spartan gear sales; and $177 from the Stanwood Elementary PTO to cover the transportation costs for the Stanwood Elementary preschool field trip to Schuh Farms pumpkin patch.
