After a successful launch of our new Transitional Kindergarten program in January 2023, the Stanwood-Camano School District is proud to continue the free program for the 2023-24 school year.
And we will be adding a classroom at Cedarhome Elementary School in January 2024.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is aimed at helping children who haven’t accessed pre-school prepare for kindergarten.
TK is a free, full-day early entrance kindergarten program for children who will be 4 years old as of September 1, 2023.
Students are eligible for the program if they have not had prior access to early learning experiences and/or have been identified through a screening process as being in need of additional preparation based on academic or social-emotional deficits to be successful in kindergarten in the following year.
The program will begin in October. Applications opened May 17. Classes are taught by highly qualified teachers, and transportation will be provided. Space is limited. The TK program is aligned with the Washington Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to promote social/emotional competence in infants and young children.
Our goal is to provide families with the opportunity to ensure their students begin their school careers ready for kindergarten.
Students will learn the routines of kindergarten, colors, shapes, alphabet, and numbers, vocabulary, sharing and following directions in a school setting. Most of all, kids will have fun while learning!
