New members sworn into School Board positions

Three members were sworn on to the Stanwood-Camano School Board during its regular board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023.

Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh gave the oath of office to Miranda Evans for the District 3 seat, Betsy Foster for the District 4 seat, and Steve King for the District 5 (at-large) seat.

The school board then voted to reorganize its leadership for the next year, choosing Al Schreiber as board president and Charlotte Murry as board vice president.

In other business at the meeting:

  • Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh gave a report on the district’s enrollment

  • Executive Director of Business Services Ruth Floyd provided an update on October 2023 Financial Report

  • Transportation Director Angie O’Connor gave an update on the Transportation Department

  • The school board accepted several donations, including $200 from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories in support of the Science Department at Stanwood Middle School, $105 from Ladders Clothing & Company in Stanwood in support of the Future Business Leaders of America competition travel expenses, $105 from Handymax LLC in Stanwood in support of the Future Business Leaders of America competition travel expenses, $10,000 from the Dorothy Koch Foundation in support of the School Spirit Program at Elger Bay Elementary School, and $1,275 from Mark Vondemkamp on behalf of Bright Funds in support of families in need.

The school board then adjourned to a study session to have a discussion about the Open Public Meetings Act, Public Records, and School Common Law with guest speaker Valerie Hughes with Perkins Coie LLP.

The board also reviewed its annual goals and objectives, the board self evaluation, and training and development. The board then reviewed the Board of Directors Operating Protocol.
