School Board Short Term Goals

Instructional Goals

  • Schools are implementing inclusive practices
  • Students are general education students first
  • Staff are trained and supported on best practices and compliance with the law

School/District Improvement Goals

  • Implementation of District Strategic Plan is prioritized, and progress toward goals is monitored
  • All schools have 1-year annual action plans that identify goals for students and instructional strategies for adults

Capital Projects

  • Current year capital projects; on track and budget

Communication Goals

  • District communications are clear, concise, accurate, and timely
  • District communications enhance and support district priorities

Budget Goals

  • Budget capacity and fund balance are managed and adjusted throughout the year

Safety Goals

  • Safety plans and assessments are prioritized
  • Staff are trained on the importance of physical safety, academic safety, and social and emotional learning in and out of the classroom

School Board Long-Term Goals

Instructional Goals

  • Ensure students are continuously improving in their academic performance
  • Set a district vision for inclusionary practices across all classrooms and all programs that include ongoing, job-embedded training, support, and feedback
  • Set a district vision for social and emotional learning with skills and support for staff, students, and families

School/District Improvement Goals

  • Implementation of District Strategic Plan is prioritized, and progress toward goals is monitored
  • All schools have 3-year school improvement plans that identify goals for students and instructional strategies for adults

Capital Projects

  • Capital facilities master plan is regularly revised and revisited to ensure long-term planning for the use and maintenance of district assets

Communication Goals

  • Developing intentional, meaningful, two-way communication with staff and employees regularly
  • Proactively develop communication strategies for district initiatives for priorities now and into the future

Budget Goals

  • Maintain fiscal responsibilities as outlined by law and policy

Safety Goals

  • Safety plans and assessments are annually reviewed and prioritized
  • Staff have trained annually on the importance of physical safety, academic safety, and social and emotional learning in and out of the classroom

Equity

School Board Commitments

  • Affirmation of board policies to address racist, biased, discriminatory, threatening language and actions every time it is heard and seen
  • Amplify voices of frequently marginalized individuals to ensure access to a safe, supportive learning and work environment
  • Become practiced in the act of disrupting discriminatory language and behaviors
  • Participate annually in Cultural Competence and Racial Bias training as provided by SCSD and training offered by WSSDA

Board Participation

Community/School Involvement

  • Resuming post-pandemic routines for school visits and community listening sessions (see below)

Building/Department Check-Ins

  • First semester of the 2022-2023 school year, two board members and one member of the cabinet will visit an elementary school
  • Second semester of the 2022-2023 school year, two board members and one member of the cabinet will visit a secondary school or department

Educate Community Members on the role of a School Board Member

  • Utilize building/department check-ins and community forums to share the role of school board members

Community Forums

  • Set a routine of community listening sessions at school sites over the course of the 2022-2023 school year (a.k.a. Chat with the Board)
