Special Education Child Identification Notice

NOTICE OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

The district’s policies and procedures regarding special education and any required evaluations, plans, and reports relating to special education are available to the public, upon request, through the district’s Special Services office and the Superintendent’s office.


CHILD IDENTIFICATION NOTICE

The Stanwood-Camano School District is seeking young people from birth to age 21 who are enrolled in school or not and may need special education services.  Special needs are defined as concerns with hearing, vision, speech, language, health, learning, developmental delay, behavior management, intellectual disabilities, birth defects, orthopedic or spinal problems, autism, or other disabilities.  Parents or guardians of children who may have any of these conditions and live within the Stanwood-Camano School District boundaries or live in a temporary situation in the District are encouraged to contact the district at 26920 Pioneer Hwy, Stanwood, WA  98292 or phone (360) 629-1236, or if your family is living in a temporary situation, you may contact the district where you are currently staying for a screening.


NOTICE OF SERVICES

Early intervention and preschool services are available for children with disabilities ages 0-5, call (360) 629-1250 or (360) 629-1236. Special education school-based services for children with disabilities ages 6-21, call (360) 629-1236.


CONFIDENTIALITY OF PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION NOTICE

Federal regulations require the Stanwood-Camano School District to provide parents annual notification of their Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) rights.  If parents have a primary or home language other than English, the district will effectively notify them of their rights under this regulation.

The parent or eligible student has a right to:

1) Inspect and review the student’s education records;

2) Inspect and review the student’s education records to ensure that they are not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy or other rights;

3) Consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that the Act and the regulations in this part authorize disclosure without consent;

4) File with the US Department of Education a complaint concerning alleged failure by the agency to comply with the requirements of the Act;

5) Obtain a copy of the policy.  A copy of this policy is available by request from Robert Hascall, Director of Special Services, at the Stanwood-Camano School District Special Services Office, located at 26920 Pioneer Hwy, Stanwood, WA  98292.
