BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 19, 2017, REGULAR BOARD MEETING 
 
CALL TO ORDER
Julie Dean, Board President, called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.

ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Natalie Hagglund, Roger Myers, Ken Christoferson, Al Schreiber, and Julie Dean.

FLAG SALUTE
Larry Francois, Superintendent of the Northwest Educational Service District #189, led the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Agenda for the December 19, 2017, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
 
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ken Christoferson made a motion to approve the Minutes of the December 5, 2017, Regular Board Meeting. Roger Myers seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

SCHOOL OF DISTINCTION
Superintendent Jean Shumate introduced Larry Francois, Superintendent of the Northwest Educational Service District #189, to present the “School of Distinction” award to Elger Bay Elementary. Dan Johnston, Director of Assessment and Technology, praised Elger Bay Elementary staff for their focus of work over a period of 5 years for the benefit of all the students to reach higher levels.

Larry Francois remarked on the accomplishments of the staff, students, and parents at Elger Bay Elementary; as this was the third award that they had received in 10 years. Mr. Francois presented the 2017 School of Distinction banner to Victor Hanzeli, Principal, and staff members representing Elger Bay Elementary: Janet Peterson, office manager, Dana Anderson, reading specialist, Jessica Jansma, grade 3 classroom teacher, Stacy Johnson, paraeducator, and Isaac Forslund, lead custodian. Mr. Hanzeli expressed his appreciation to Mr. Francois, Board Members and staff.

DONATIONS AND RECOGNITION
Natalie Hagglund presented the donations, as follows: Utsalady Booster Club donated $212.40 to Utsalady Elementary to purchase foam footballs and playground rubber balls, and Stanwood-Camano School District received the following transportation donations: a) Stanwood Band Boosters, $1,671.62, for Stanwood High School band field trip to Husky Stadium for “Band Day,” and b) Stanwood Elementary PTO, $910.22, for Stanwood Elementary 5th grade students’ outdoor education field trip, to-and-from, Camp Seymour, Gig Harbor.

FINANCIAL REPORT, NOVEMBER 2017
Steve Lidgard, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the financial reports for the month of November. He reviewed the executive summary.

CONSENT AGENDA
Al Schreiber made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items, 1-8, listed below. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
1. Donations.
2. Stanwood High School Team Field Trips: (a) Boys Varsity Basketball Team, December 21-23, Tacoma, and (b) Wrestling Team, January 5-6, 2018, Bremerton.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS 

Roger Myers wished everyone a Merry Christmas and said he was proud of our school district.

Ken Christoferson noted that it was fun to celebrate with people who work hard (Elger Bay Elementary School of Distinction award).

Natalie Hagglund congratulated Elger Bay Elementary for receiving their award.

Al Schreiber expressed his well-wishes to staff.

Julie Dean said that dedication and professionalism is evident at all levels.

Dr. Shumate was grateful for the Board’s leadership and their focus on what is best for students.

ADJOURNMENT
Julie Dean adjourned the regular meeting at 1:21 PM.
