STANWOOD-CAMANO SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 1, 2016, REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.

ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Julie Dean, Natalie Hagglund, Roger Myers, and Ken Christoferson. Al Schreiber arrived at 1:13 pm.

FLAG SALUTE
Roger Myers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Agenda for the November 1, 2016, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Roger Myers made a motion to approve the Minutes of the October 18, 2016, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS
Annie Peterson, MSW, from the Snohomish Health District, Healthy Communities & Assessment, Healthy Communities Specialist, introduced herself and shared that she is interested to learn more about our district and would be available to address issues regarding tobacco, marijuana, and vaping among our youth.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS
Julie Dean presented the donations, as follows:
1. Candi Tallquist donated a Yamaha Electric Grand 76 key piano, valued at $130, to the music program at Twin City Elementary.
2. Stanwood Lacrosse donated 30 Lacrosse sticks with soft balls, valued at $522, to each physical education program at Twin City Elementary and Elger Bay Elementary.
3. Elger Bay Elementary PTA donated $3,300 to Elger Bay Elementary for outdoor experiences for kindergarten through grade four and for classroom enrichment.

AUGUST FINANCIAL REPORT
Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the year-end financial report for 2015-16 school year. He discussed the executive summary, manager's report, the budget status reports, and food service program report.

CONSENT AGENDA
Roger Myers made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items 1-8, listed below. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved.
1. Donations
2. Stanwood High School Field Trips:
    a. Cross Country State Tournament, November 3-5, 2016, Pasco
    b. Girls Soccer State Tournament, November 17-19, 2016, Tacoma
    c. Girls Swimming State Tournament, November 10-12, 2016, Federal Way
    d. Varsity Volleyball State Tournament, November 10-13, 2016, Kennewick
3. Copier Lease Agreement with Kelley Imaging Systems for Elger Bay Elementary.
4. Highly Capable Program for the 2017-18 School Year
5. E-Rate Agreement with Educational Service District #112.
6. Superintendent's Work Plan Areas for 2016-17.
7. Personnel Consent Agenda
8. Northwest Educational Service District #189 Contract for Network Support Services.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Roger Myers said he enjoyed the Halloween trick-or-treaters who came to his home and was happy that students were able to express themselves. He also looked forward to the annual conference for school directors.

Al Schreiber attended a RAVE Mobile Safety training and will incorporate some information into the workshop that he will present at the school directors conference.

Natalie Hagglund reported that her husband attended the district's three-day emergency substitute teacher training and was very impressed with the professionalism of the presenters.

Julie Dean congratulated administrators and staff for staying close to their budgets.

Superintendent Shumate stated that 40 bond presentations were completed to date.

Director Christoferson adjourned the regular meeting at 1:23 PM.
