BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 16, 2014 REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER

President Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center boardroom.

ROLL CALL

Board members in attendance were: Julie Dean, Darlene Hartley, Al Schreiber, Roger Myers, and Ken Christoferson. Mindy Atwell and Ingrid Pelletier, Student Advisors, were also present.

FLAG SALUTE
Lisa Orton, Transportation Director, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Agenda for the December 16, 2014, Regular Board Meeting. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Roger Myers made a motion to approve the Minutes of the December 2, 2014, Regular Board Meeting. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved.

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS

There were no comments.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS
Ingrid Pelletier and Mindy Atwell presented the donations, as follows:  (1) Utsalady Elementary Booster Club donated an activity stipend of $358.00, to Utsalady Elementary for an afterschool guitar enrichment class, and (2) Port Susan Middle School PTO donated $2,000.00 to Port Susan Middle School for the Accelerated Reader Program.

AWARD of HONOR
Stanwood High School Students, Hailey Yourist, Lucas Franz, and Conner Reynolds, received the Award of Honor.  Jean Shumate, Superintendent, Lisa Orton, Transportation Director, and Board of Directors recognized the students for their quick response to an emergency situation on their bus.

EMPLOYEE AWARDS
Joy Rusko, Secretary to the Superintendent, introduced the following awards:

Classified Employee of the Month for November:  Sue Enquist, Saratoga School Office Manager, was recognized by Curt Chester, Lead Teacher, and Ruth Callender, who read the nomination she wrote.

Teacher of the Month for September:  Kris Merritt was recognized by Kevin Plameck, Director of Career and Technical Education and Kathy Redfern who read her nomination for Kris.

Teacher of the Month for November:  Michelle Rockwood was recognized by Tod Klundt, Stanwood Middle School Principal and Keli Niegemann, Stanwood Middle School counselor, who wrote Michelle’s nomination. Patti Lauritsen, parent, was unable to attend and Mr. Klundt read her nomination.

RECESS
Director Christoferson recessed the meeting at 7:30 PM for approximately 5 minutes to allow guests to leave.  He resumed the meeting at 7:42 PM.

FINANCIAL REPORTS
Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, gave the Monthly Financial Report for November 2014.  He reviewed the Executive Summary, Budget Status Report for the General Fund, and Food Service Report.

CONSENT AGENDA
Darlene Hartley made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items 1-6, listed below. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously. 

1. Donations.
2. 2014/15 Carl Perkins Career and Technical Education Act Grant Application.
3. Resolution 2014/15-002, Requesting Graduation Requirements Waiver of CORE 24 and The Washington State Board of Education Application for Temporary Waiver from High School Graduation Requirements.
4. Contract with McGranahan Architects.
5. Personnel Consent Agenda
6. Bills and Payroll

STUDENT ADVISOR REPORTS

Ingrid Pelletier reported on Stanwood High School’s winter athletic events (basketball, wrestling and swim), activities (assembly, Holiday Giving Tree, food drive, and “Candy Cane-grams”), and announced that the spring musical will be “Into the Woods.”

Mindy Atwell reported on events at Lincoln Hill High School.  She announced that there were 16 students on the Honor Roll and students who received perfect attendance were recognized.  A food drive concludes on Friday, December 19th, and Lincoln Hill High School’s first yearbook is in progress.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS

Board members expressed their holiday sentiments, wishing all to have a happy holiday season. 

Ken Christoferson said it was a pleasure to honor the young people for taking care of everyone during the bus incident.

ADJOURNMENT

Director Christoferson adjourned the regular meeting at 7:54 PM.
