BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 7, 2014 REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER

President Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 12:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center boardroom.

ROLL CALL

Board members in attendance were Julie Dean, Al Schreiber, Roger Myers, and Ken Christoferson. Director Darlene Hartley was absent and excused.

FLAG SALUTE
Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Agenda for the January 7, 2014, Regular Board Meeting. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Roger Myers made a motion to approve the Minutes of the December 17, 2013, Regular Board Meeting. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS

There were no comments.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS

  1. The donations were read by Julie Dean as follows: 3rd grade students received dictionaries from: Stanwood-Camano Kiwanis ($232.00), South Camano Grange ($204.00), and Stillaguamish Grange ($772.00); and Port Susan Middle School received $495.00 from Viking Village Shopping Center. Stanwood Camano Wellness Center donated $238.00 to Lincoln Hill High School, and Washington Traffic Safety Commission donated $441.62 to Cedarhome Elementary. Firefly Images donated school photo rebates to the following schools: Twin City Elementary ($448.00), Utsalady Elementary ($551.00), Elger Bay Elementary ($583.00), Stanwood Elementary ($544.00), and Cedarhome Elementary ($953.00). Firefly Images also donated a Fuji Fine Pix S2980 Camera, valued at $160.00 to Elger Bay Elementary. Cedarhome PTA donated 20 iPads for students at Cedarhome Elementary valued at $7,340.00 and Stanwood Elementary PTA donated two stipends, $1,628.80, to Stanwood Elementary for 5th grade teachers to attend Outdoor Education Camp at Camp Seymour.

JANUARY ENROLLMENT

Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reported that enrollment for the month of January was above the projected budget by about 10 Full Time Equivalent (FTE). The total enrollment for January was 4,222.62 FTE. 

CONSENT AGENDA

Al Schreiber made a motion to approve consent agenda items 1-5, listed below. Julie Dean seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously. 

  1. Donations.
  2. First Reading of Revised Instruction Policy 2410, High School Graduation Requirements.
  3. 2013-14 Cooperative Agreement with Catholic Community Services of Western Washington.
  4. 2013-14 Cooperative Agreement for Prevention/Intervention Services with Catholic Community Services of Western Washington.
  5. Personnel Consent Agenda

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS

Roger Myers said he was looking forward to another year.

Al Schreiber thanked the Board for the opportunity to attend the Washington State School Directors Association Annual Conference. 

Ken Christoferson thanked Mr. Platt for the good enrollment report.

Ken Christoferson adjourned the Regular Meeting at 12.11 PM.
