BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 16, 2008, REGULAR MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
Roger Myers called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Board members in attendance were: Roger Myers, Ken Christoferson, Darlene Hartley, Julie Dean, and Pat Patterson. Student advisors, Alex Keller and Anne Marie Olson was also in attendance. Cathy Britt, Public Information Coordinator, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the agenda. Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Pat Patterson made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 2, 2008, Regular Board Meeting. Ken Christoferson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved.

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS
Four parents shared their concerns regarding student harrassment, bullying, and intimidation issues primarily at the high school. To ensure the safety and education of their students, they pleaded for stricter penalties for those that offend. The following parents addressed the Board: Karen McMillan, 6807 156th St. NW, Stanwood; Ruth Ann Parker, 27220 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood; James Kirkham, 6109 Jensen Rd., Stanwood; and Leanne Floyd, 8414 Cedarhome Dr. NW, Stanwood.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate announced the following reports:

DONATIONS and RECOGNITIONS
Student advisors, Alex Keller and Anne Marie Olson, presented the donations from Microsoft Giving Campaign, and Boeing Company and read the recognitions.

Student recognition: Cathy Britt, public information coordinator, introduced the Board of Directors' Shining Star Award recipients, Rosa Tapia-Garrido from Twin City Elementary and Curtis Zelinka from Stanwood Middle School. Principals and teachers recognized their students for their hard work, ability to overcome challenges, and being a positive shining star in their schools.

Teacher of the Month: Cathy Britt announced that Sabrina Shaw, Stanwood High School history teacher, received the honor of being selected as the December Teacher of the Month. Three students praised Mrs. Shaw for her inspiring knowledge of teaching the subject of history.

CONSENT AGENDA
Darlene Hartley made a motion to approve the consent agenda, listed below. Pat Patterson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

STUDENT ADVISORS' REPORT
Alex Keller announced the high school's sporting events and Anne Marie Olson reported on high school activities.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Board members expressed their appreciation for the audience participation and the recognition of students and teacher. Each wished everyone a great holiday season.

Roger Myers and Jean Shumate recognized Alex Keller for being selected as the Spartan Student Athlete of the Week.

ADJOURNMENT
Roger Myers adjourned the regular meeting at 7:41 PM.
