2026 Equivalency Credit for Career and Technical Education Courses
EQUIVALENCY CREDIT FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION COURSES
The district recognizes that Career and Technical Education courses provide students critical workforce and academic training for future employment and post-secondary education, and that many students benefit from learning core academic skills and content within the applied context of Career and Technical Education courses.
Career and technical courses approved for equivalency must meet the following criteria:
- Align with the Washington State K-12 Learning Standards, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards as adopted by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for the course/subject for which the equivalency is granted, classroom based performance standards; and
- Align with current industry standards, as defined and evidenced in the OSPI approved curriculum frameworks for the course; and
- Align with employability and leadership skills, as defined and evidenced in the OSPI approved curriculum frameworks for the course.
Career and technical courses determined by the school district to be equivalent to academic core courses, in full or in part, shall be accepted as meeting core requirements, including graduation requirements, if the courses are recorded on the student’s transcript using the equivalent academic high school department designation and title. Full or partial credit shall be recorded as appropriate.
The superintendent will establish procedures for evaluating and determining course equivalencies for Career and Technical Education and core academic courses, and appoint a district team to annually review and approve course equivalencies and publish a district-approved equivalency list.
