Board goals

• Schools are implementing inclusive practices

• Students are consistently served and included in general education classes as appropriate

• Staff are trained and supported on best practices and compliance with the law 

• Students experience intellectual engagement in the classroom

• Implementation of year two of the District Strategic Plan is prioritized, 
  Progress toward goals outlined in the District Strategic Plan is monitored and reported publicly

• All schools have 1-year annual action plans (AAP) that identify goals for students and instructional strategies for adults

• All school's progress toward AAP goals is monitored and reported to school staff and the school board

• Capital projects remain on track and budget

• The Community Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) will assist in prioritizing the remaining projects as needed

• District communications are clear, concise, accurate, and timely; they intentionally reach individuals outside of the school community

• District communications enhance and support district priorities and expand beyond the school district into the community

• District communications reflect student voice and feedback as appropriate

• Budget capacity and fund balance are managed and adjusted throughout the year

• The Community Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) will participate in and engage the community in expanding public understanding and knowledge about school district budgeting 

• Safety plans and assessments are prioritized

• Staff are trained on the importance of physical safety, academic safety, and social and emotional learning in and out of the classroom

• Student voice and feedback related to safety will be actively solicited

• Ensure students are continuously improving in their academic performance as aligned to the 5-year District Strategic Plan        

• Set a multi-year district vision for inclusionary practices across all classrooms and all programs that include ongoing, job-embedded training, support, and feedback      

• Set a multi-year district vision for social and emotional learning with skills and support for staff, students, and families

• Explicit implementation of the District’s 5-year Strategic Plan is prioritized, and progress toward goals and measures is publicly reported

• All schools prepare for recurring 3-year school improvement plans that identify goals for students and instructional strategies for adults

• The capital facilities master plan is regularly reviewed by CFAC and revised to ensure long-term planning for the use and maintenance of district assets, including property management

• Developing intentional, meaningful, two-way communication with staff, students, families, and community members

• Proactively build communication strategies for district initiatives for priorities now and into the future

• Maintain fiscal responsibilities as outlined by law and policy

• Actively search out opportunities for local, regional, and statewide training and preparedness exercises

• Stay attuned to new tools, technologies, and trends in criminal activity, including  best practices to ensure the safest possible learning environment 

• Enforce board policies to address racist, biased, discriminatory, and threatening language and actions every time it is heard and seen

• Amplify the voices of frequently marginalized individuals to ensure access to a safe, supportive learning and work environment

• Become practiced in the act of disrupting discriminatory language and behaviors

• Participate annually in Cultural Competence and Racial Bias training as provided by SCSD and training offered by WSSDA

Continue to participate in school visits to become familiar with and aware of the work done by schools, including, but not limited to:

• AAPs and intellectual engagement

• Inclusionary practices

• Safety protocols

• Capital improvements

• Two-way communication with students, staff, and families 

• During the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year, two board members and one member of the cabinet will visit an elementary school 

• In the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year, two board members and one member of the cabinet will see a secondary school or department

• Continue the practice of community listening sessions at school sites for the 2023-2024 school year
