Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Stanwood-Camano School District!

It's fun, flexible, and rewarding. 

Volunteers provide a valuable service to our schools and the District appreciates the time, talent, commitment, and energy given by all volunteers. 

All volunteers are required to go through a volunteer application and training process. Once approved, your volunteer application is valid for the current school year only. It can be renewed by completing the application process again. 

If you are a student volunteer, please complete this Student Volunteer Application (for use by SCSD students in grades K-12 who wish to volunteer in our district.)

HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, AND BULLYING TRAINING

We all share a responsibility to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for every student.

  • The district follows a Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (H.I.B.) policy and procedure
  • Policy 3207 is available online
  • Volunteers have the same responsibility as staff to report and respond to concerns
  • In many cases, the best way to help is to report concerns to school staff
  • Reporting forms are available:
    • In school offices
    • On school websites
    • On the district website

What Is Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying?

H.I.B. includes actions that:

  • Physically harm a student or their property
  • Interfere with a student’s education
  • Create an intimidating or threatening learning environment
  • Disrupt the operation of the school

Forms of H.I.B.

Harassment, intimidation, or bullying can take many forms, including:

  • Demeaning comments
  • Slurs, rumors, or jokes
  • Put-downs
  • Drawings or written messages
  • Pranks or gestures
  • Hurtful verbal or physical actions
  • Images or messages shared with others

Online and Social Media Behavior

H.I.B. can also happen online. Examples include:

  • Posting mean or hurtful comments
  • Pretending to be someone else
  • Encouraging others to exclude someone
  • Sharing private or confidential information
  • Sending harmful messages

How to Report H.I.B.

If you see or hear something, report it.

You can report concerns by:

  • Completing an online form on a school or district website
  • Filling out a printed form from a school office
  • Dropping off or emailing a completed form
  • Contacting a school principal by phone or email

Reporting with SafeSchools Alert

There are five ways to report using SafeSchools Alert:

  1. Phone
  2. Text
  3. Web
  4. Mobile app
  5. Email

What Happens After a Report

All reports are taken seriously.

Possible responses may include:

  • Meetings with students and families
  • Additional education or training
  • Safety planning
  • Behavior agreements
  • Appropriate discipline

Harassment is not acceptable and will be addressed to ensure student safety.

I understand there are two kinds of boundary invasions – those that are appropriate because they have educational or health reasons and those that are inappropriate.

I understand that I am responsible for following District procedures regarding maintaining professional staff/student boundaries, incident reporting, and consequences of engaging in boundary invasions.

I understand that while school volunteers are not legally mandated reporters of suspected child abuse, the District's expectation is that volunteers speak to an administrator promptly regarding any inappropriate incident, conduct, or behavior.

VOLUNTEER RELEASE & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I shall respect the privacy concerns of students and staff, and I shall hold in confidence all information learned in the course of my volunteer service, whether that information is obtained through electronic or written records or daily interaction. I will not disclose an individual’s confidences to anyone, except: 1) as mandated by law; 2) to prevent a clear and immediate danger to a person or persons. I shall store or dispose of records in ways that maintain confidentiality.

I understand that I am responsible for following District procedures regarding maintaining professional staff/student boundaries, incident reporting, and consequences of engaging in boundary invasions. I understand that while school volunteers are not legally mandated reporters of suspected child abuse, the District's expectation is that volunteers contact an administrator or staff member promptly regarding any inappropriate incident, conduct, or behavior.

Under district policy 6530, volunteers are eligible for liability indemnification while acting in compliance with the policies and procedures of the District and within the scope of their assigned volunteer activities. I understand that I am a volunteer for the Stanwood-Camano School District, not an employee. I acknowledge that the District does not provide any accidental medical insurance coverage for volunteer activities and that I am aware of and assume all risks of injury or damage to my person or property. As a volunteer, I do not qualify for workers’ compensation benefits and I assume financial responsibility for any injuries I may incur while performing volunteer services.

I have read the volunteer handbook, or had it read to me and I am familiar with its contents. I understand that the handbook is intended to cover the procedures, rules and policies most often applied to day-to-day volunteer activities, and that some of the information will change from time to time as procedures evolve. The handbook is available for viewing and download on the volunteer page of the district website or I may request a printed copy from the district.
