Summer School

The Stanwood-Camano School District offers summer learning opportunities for students who need additional academic support or credit recovery. Summer school programs are designed to meet specific student needs and are not open enrollment programs for all students.

How summer school works

Summer school opportunities vary by grade level and student need. Some programs are available by invitation only, while others are offered to students who need to recover credits toward graduation.

If your child qualifies for a summer school program, you will be contacted directly by your school or counselor with information about eligibility, registration, transportation, meals, and attendance expectations.

Elementary summer school

The district offers a summer learning program for selected elementary students who would benefit from additional support in reading and literacy skills.

Students are identified through classroom performance, assessments, and teacher recommendations. Families of eligible students receive an invitation and enrollment information from the district.

The elementary program focuses on:

  • Reading and writing skill development

  • Building confidence and readiness for the next grade level

  • Engaging enrichment opportunities such as art, music, and physical activity

  • Breakfast and lunch for participating students

Because space is limited, attendance is expected for the full duration of the program.

The Summer School Session typically runs the first three weeks in August. Contact your elementary school office with questions specific to elementary summer school.

Students are expected to be in attendance all 15 days as there are a limited number of students who can attend and many that could benefit from this support. Students are to adhere to school and district policies regarding behavior on campus.

High school summer school

Stanwood High School offers a summer credit recovery program for students who are credit deficient and working toward graduation requirements.

We ask that students and families complete this form. Then, school counselors work directly with students to determine:

  • Eligibility for the program

  • Graduation requirements that still need to be completed

  • Appropriate courses for credit recovery

The 2026 summer school program will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, July 20, through Thursday, Aug. 20, at Stanwood High School.
