Bright Start
Bright Start, formerly known as Operation School Bell, provides new clothing and other essentials to students in need so they can come to school comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.
The program is offered by Luma NW, formerly Assistance League of Everett. Bright Start provides preschool, elementary, and middle school students with new clothing, shoes, and personal hygiene items.
Who is eligible?
Stanwood-Camano School District students may participate in Bright Start if they:
-
Are enrolled in preschool through eighth grade
-
Attend school regularly
-
Complete the required Bright Start forms
For the 2026-27 school year, Stanwood-Camano students will receive personalized bags of new clothing rather than traveling to Luma NW for in-person shopping.
Completed forms should be sent to our district lead nurse Mary Hoffman at mhoffman@stanwood.wednet.edu. They will submit requests to Bright Start and coordinate delivery of completed orders to schools.
Bright Start orders may include clothing, a jacket, shoes, socks, underwear, personal hygiene items, and a book.
High school students
High school students may receive clothing assistance through Luma NW's Teen Retail Program.
Through the program, eligible high school students receive vouchers to shop for school clothing and shoes at participating Fred Meyer stores. Luma NW currently states that students may select up to $200 in clothing and shoes.
For more information about Teen Retail, contact Azra Grudic at AGrudic@stanwood.wednet.edu or 360-965-8875.
