BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE MARCH 1, 2016, REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 5:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.

ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Julie Dean, Natalie Hagglund, Roger Myers, Al Schreiber, and Ken Christoferson. Student Advisor Riley Cunningham was in attendance and Silver Merideth was absent.

FLAG SALUTE
Director Roger Myers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Agenda for the March 1, 2016, Regular Board Meeting. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Roger Myers made a motion to approve the Minutes of the February 16, 2016, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Minutes of the February 23, 2016, Special Audit Entrance Conference. Roger Myers seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved. Julie Dean and Natalie Hagglund abstained.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS
Riley Cunningham presented the following donations:
1.TARGET, Take Charge of Education 2016, made donations to:
a.Stanwood High School, $260.62
b.Port Susan Middle School, $152.55
c.Stanwood Middle School, $105.90
d.Cedarhome Elementary, $350.82
e.Elger Bay Elementary, $284.51
f.Stanwood Elementary, 331.24

2.The Boeing Company, Employee/Retiree Gifting Program, donated $130.00 to Cedarhome Elementary.
3.Stanwood Band Boosters donated $365.00 for the Stanwood High School Band and Solo Ensemble Jazz Festival registration fees.
4.Stanwood Foursquare Church donated $200 to Lincoln Hill High School for student field trips.

ENROLLMENT REPORT
Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the enrollment for the month of March. The actual enrollment was 4,227.39 Full Time Equivalent (FTE). There was a decrease of 14 FTE for the month.

CONSENT AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items 1-11, listed below. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
1.Stanwood High School Boys Soccer Team Camp Field Trip, March 11-12, 2016, Warm Beach Camp, Stanwood.
2.Twin City Elementary Highly Capable Environmental Camp Field Trip, March 21-23, 2016, Camp Casey Conference Center, Whidbey Island.
3.First Reading of Revised Board of Directors' Policies, as listed:

STUDENT ADVISORS REPORT
Riley Cunningham announced the results for Stanwood High School's State Wrestling: Mason Phillips – 1st Place, Jailee Mercedes – 5th Place, and Arie Van Veen – 6th Place. Two athletes qualified for state swim competition: Michael Sandquist and Michael Sobotta; and the boys basketball team qualified for the state tournament and plays their first game at the Tacoma Dome on Thursday, March 3rd. Spring sports started practice on February 29.

The Hi-Q Team earned 2nd Place in the region; the semi-finals will be held March 2nd and Knowledge Bowl earned 1st Place in the Northwest Educational Service District and earned a berth at the State Tournament March 19th.

Riley also stated that the Winter Ball was successful and a Fine Arts Assembly is planned for March 25th.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Roger Myers congratulated Riley for being a member of the Knowledge Bowl Team and was proud of Mason Phillips who earned 1st Place at the State Wrestling Tournament. He also announced that there would be a Washington State School Directors workshop prior to the Regional Meeting on March 28th.

Al Schreiber attended a briefing regarding the YMCA in Stanwood and was excited to learn about the partnerships with the district and the opportunity for the high school swim teams.

Natalie Hagglund announced that the high school spring musical, Disney's High School Musical, would be performed March 4,5,10,11, and 12. Natalie said she would be in the "pit" as an accompanist.

Director Christoferson adjourned the regular meeting at 5:09 PM.
