Audience Participation

Before coming to the Board with a specific school question, concern, or issue, we encourage you to discuss the issue first with the person closest to the situation such as a teacher, guidance counselor, school principal, and, if necessary, the appropriate person at the Administration & Resource Center.

Audience Participation
The board recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of involving members of the public in the meetings. To permit fair and orderly expression of such comment, the board will provide a period during the meeting when visitors may make:

  1. formal presentations
  2. seek clarification, or
  3. discuss non-agenda items limited to the three minutes

FOR BOARD MEETINGS HELD USING THE ZOOM PLATFORM:
Citizens wishing to address the Board are asked to submit their request to speak along with their comment topic by clicking on the link PUBLIC COMMENT or by emailing chansen@stanwood.wednet.edu two hours prior to the board meeting start time. The Board President will call upon individuals who have used the "raise hand" feature to speak during the Public Comment section of the agenda. Individuals will be asked to unmute and state their name and address for the record and will be allowed three minutes to speak. If you are attending the zoom meeting via phone, please include the phone number you will be calling from in your email or Public Comment request so we can locate you in the attendee group and enable the speaking function.

Questions or comments submitted past the two-hour window will be shared with the Board after the meeting and a response, if appropriate, will be provided by Administration.

FOR BOARD MEETINGS HELD IN PERSON AT THE ADMINISTRATION & RESOURCE CENTER IN THE BOARDROOM:
If you wish to address the Board during a meeting, please complete the Comments from Citizens form and bring it with you to the meeting, or arrive to the SCSD Board Room 15 minutes early to complete a form, and give it to the recording secretary prior to the beginning of the meeting. Speakers must state their name and any school affiliation. The board president has the responsibility to terminate any statement which is too lengthy, personally directed to a district employee, student, parent, or community member, abusive, obscene, or irrelevant.

Formal presentations: Formal presentations must be submitted to the secretary of the school board, the superintendent, by Monday the week prior to the meeting in order that the business may be reviewed for the placement of the agenda. Presentations may be limited to five minutes at the discretion of the president of the board.

Clarifications: Individuals who wish clarification during the time the board is discussing a particular agenda item are to raise their hands. When recognized by the board president, the individual will be allowed a brief moment to express the need for clarification.

Non-agenda items: The agenda contains a place for communications from the audience about non-agenda items. The board president will announce the time.
