BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE JUNE 20, 2017, REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
Julie Dean called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.

ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Natalie Hagglund, Roger Myers, Ken Christoferson, and Julie Dean. Al Schreiber was absent and excused.

FLAG SALUTE
Roger Myers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Roger Myers made a motion to approve the Agenda for the June 20, 2017, Regular Board Meeting. Ken Christoferson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Natalie Hagglund made a motion to approve the Minutes of the June 6, 2017, Regular Board Meeting. Ken Christoferson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

Roger Myers made a motion to approve the Minutes of the June 6, 2017, Special Board Retreat. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS
Julie Dean presented the recognition, as follows:
1.Xperitas - Intercultural Student Experience granted $250 to the Stanwood High School German Program to aid in teaching world language in the classroom.
2.Friends of Camano Island State Parks donated transportation costs, $524.13, to Stanwood-Camano School District for the Elger Bay Elementary, Utsalady Elementary and Stanwood Elementary 2nd grade students' field trip to Camano Island State Park.
3.Stanwood Booster Club, Sports Account, donated transportation costs, $333.65, to Stanwood-Camano School District for the Stanwood High School Track Team's participation in the Jock and Jill Meet, in Seattle.
4.Port Susan Middle School PTO donated transportation costs of $231.96 and $1,214.93 to Stanwood-Camano School District for Port Susan Middle School's choir field trip to the Music Festival at the Everett Civic Center, the band promotion tour at the elementary schools, the Jazz Band competition at Glacier Peak High School, and for the choir competition in Olympia.
5.John Cumbow donated colored glass and miscellaneous tools, valued at $700, to the Stanwood High School Glass Art Program.
6.Stanwood Elementary PTO donated $830.20 to Stanwood-Camano School District for a Stanwood Elementary teacher stipend for Outdoor Education and $130.93 to Stanwood Elementary to support the purchase of Chrome Books.
7.Twin City Elementary PTA donated transportation costs to Stanwood-Camano School District for the following Twin City Elementary field trips:
a.$248.43 - Highly Capable students to Coupeville and 2nd grade students to the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner,
b.$249.65 - 3rd grade students to Mount Baker Theatre,
c.$309.55 - 2nd grade students to Woodland Park Zoo,
d.$799.67 - 5th grade students to Camp Seymour for Outdoor Education.
8.Cedarhome Elementary PTO donated transportation costs to the Stanwood-Camano School District for the following Cedarhome Elementary field trips:
a.$487.10 - 3rd grade students to Padilla Bay,
b.$636.57 - 1st grade students to Woodland Park Zoo,
c.$890.18 - 3rd grade students to Pilchuck Glass Studio and 2nd grade students to the Seattle Science Center.
9. Utsalady Booster Club donated transportation costs to Stanwood-Camano School District for Utsalady Elementary field trips: $198.52 for 1st grade students to the Everett Civic Center and $863.88 for kindergarten students to Everett Performing Arts Center and the 5th grade Marine Boat field trip. The Booster Club also donated two Lightspeed Technologies FM Systems for the classroom, valued at $2,000.
10. Stanwood Band Boosters donated transportation costs, $1,042.18, to Stanwood-Camano School District for Stanwood High School band field trip to and from Sea-Tac Airport for the band to attend the Anaheim Music Festival.

FINANCIAL REPORT
Steve Lidgard, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the financial reports for the month of May 2017. He reviewed the Executive Summary, the Capital Projects Budget, and the Debt Service Fund Budget Status Report. He added that the legislature does not have a budget, at this time, and the district would move forward to complete the 2017-18 budget as planned.

CAPITAL PROJECTS
Gary Platt, Executive, Director of Capital Projects, gave the first Capital Projects Monthly Report. He stated that $40,297,214.60 from the bond sales was deposited in the Capital Projects Fund, which is restricted for capital projects only. The McGranahan Architects' contract was on the consent agenda for approval and Liz Jamieson was hired as the new project manager. He discussed the updates for the bond projects and the facilities levy projects that would begin June 21st.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Natalie Hagglund said that the district office staff lunch was great and it was a wonderful way to celebrate a great year. She was looking forward to all of the summer projects.

Ken Christoferson was also looking forward to the capital projects' activities and he stated that with big projects there's excitement and anxiety; that the community has been waiting a long time. He thanked Gary Platt for the Capital Projects Report and the explanation on change orders.

Roger Myers shared that he was amazed by all that is being done by everyone.

Jean Shumate said that this was the most exciting of all her years in education.

Julie Dean expressed that it was an honor to serve on the Board.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
Julie Dean excused the Board Members to executive session to review the performance of a staff member at 1:29 PM.

ADJOURNMENT
Julie Dean adjourned the regular meeting at 2:36 PM.
