School Board

The Stanwood-Camano School District's Board of Directors establishes policy for the school district, adopts the annual operating budgets, hires the Superintendent, employs school personnel as recommended by the Superintendent, and exercises other powers that are established by Washington state law. The Board of Directors consists of five citizens who reside within the School District area who are elected by voters to serve four-year terms in office.

Al Schreiber2015 16

Albert Schreiber
Director District 1

Al Schreiber was re-elected in November 2017. He received his BS in Business Administration from Trine University in 1972 and his Masters from Willamette University’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management in 1977. He is retired after 36 years in law enforcement. As a Senior Special Agent his duties included adult education/training and his last 9 years were spent at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and assignments to the International Law Enforcement Academy. For the past 19 years he served as an instructor teaching “Leadership” around the world. Al lives in the Warm Beach area with his wife, JoAnne (a teacher/administrator), and their triplets.

Director District 2

Chad Lewis was appointed to the Board on August 21, 2018, to complete the term of Roger Myers. He is a retired educator, management consultant, and textbook author who lives with his wife, Patty, in the Camaloch community on Camano. His degrees are from Edmonds CC, The Evergreen State College, Western Washington University, and the University of Puget Sound. He enjoys music, reading, trying to play golf, and the company of good friends.

Julie Dean, Vice President
Director District 3

Julie Dean was re-elected to the Board in November 2015. Julie and her husband John have lived on Camano Island for over 30 years. She is a Registered Nurse in Mount Vernon. Julie has been involved in the Stanwood-Camano Co-op preschool, Stanwood-Camano Community Fair, and Camano Island Fire and Rescue, where she served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Currently, she serves as a board member for the Stanwood YMCA. Julie is the mother of two adult children and has two grandchildren.


Ken Christoferson
Director District 4

Ken Christoferson was re-elected in November of 2015, and served as board president for 10 years. He previously served on the board from 1995-1999 and again since 2003 to the present. Ken and his wife, Barbara, have lived in the community their entire lives raising their two sons, Erik and Andrew and daughter, Alyssa. Both parents and their children graduated from Stanwood High School. The Christoferson's own and operate a business in the community.

Natalie Hagglund2015 16

Natalie Hagglund, President


Natalie Hagglund was elected to the board in November 2015. She graduated from Stanwood High School and previously worked as a classified substitute employee for the district. Natatlie is a preschool teacher, bookkeeper and piano accompanist, an active PTA member and volunteer. She lives in Stanwood with her husband, and has two children in school in our district.
