MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 17, 2017, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
Julie Dean, Board President, called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.
ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Natalie Hagglund, Roger Myers, Ken Christoferson, Al Schreiber, and Julie Dean.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
President, Julie Dean, excused the board members to executive session to review the performance of a staff member for approximately 30 minutes. The executive session ended at 5:55 PM.
ADJOURNMENT
Julie Dean adjourned the meeting at 5:56 PM to attend the study session.
RECONVENE
Julie Dean reconvened the regular meeting at 7:03 PM.
ROLL CALL
All board members and student advisors, Ashley Peterson and Omar Figueroa, were present.

Natalie Hagglund led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Agenda for the October 17, 2017, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ken Christoferson made a motion to approve the Minutes of the October 3, 2017, Regular Board Meeting. Roger Myers seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
ANTI-HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, AND BULLYING POSTER CONTEST
Lloy Schaaf, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, congratulated the budding artists and welcomed family members to the poster award recognition ceremony. She thanked the volunteer judges and the Kiwanis Club for providing gift certificates. The results are as follows:

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITIONS
Joy Post, Secretary to the Superintendent, presented the following employee awards: September Teacher of the Month, Keli Niegemann, Counselor at Port Susan Middle School. Keli was nominated by Keri Von Moos, Crysty Auckland, Mark Carlson, Crystal Titus and Dave Austin.
RECESS
Julie Dean recessed the meeting at 7:28 PM to allow guests to leave. The meeting was reconvened at 7:34 PM.

STUDENT ADVISORS REPORT
Omar Figueroa, reported that Lincoln Hill High School celebrated a community day with a music jam, study hall, table top games, and open gym. Approximately 40 students attended a theater production of “Stand and Deliver” at the Lincoln Theater in Mount Vernon. Red Ribbon week activities included a visit from Officer McCurry, discussing how drugs effect our community. The pancake breakfast was well attended and EAT’s Café was scheduled for October 26th.
Ashley Peterson reported on Stanwood High School’s events. Homecoming was very successful with the court and coronation, spirit week, and an assembly recognizing the fall athletic teams. The student body was looking forward to the last home games and the Veterans Day assemblies.
ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Roger Myers was pleaseed that so many of the Lincoln Hill High School students were able to attend the performance of Stand and Deliver. He also enjoyed the student awards for the anti-bullying poster contest.
Ken Christoferson commented on the profound poster messages and the great student efforts. He also liked the high school design presentation.
Natalie Hagglund thanked Dr. Shumate and staff for presenting levy information to community groups. She also enjoyed the posters.
Al Schreiber also was grateful for the high school presentation and expressed that the design would be a better match and safer environment.

Julie Dean adjourned the regular meeting at 7:42 PM.
STUDY SESSION
A study session was held at 6:00 PM for a bond update. McGranahan architects, Chris Lilley and Matthew Beeson, shared information on the preliminary design and schematics, budget, and schedule, for the new high school, alternative schools, and athletic fields. The study session ended at 6:50 PM.
