Dr. Schaaf recognized instructors Lisa Thompson and Beth Niemi for their expertise in the field of literacy. The committee has actively researched the K-12 state and national reading/writing models and a WIKI was developed as a communication tool to use in meetings and to share information on the committee’s progress. Dr. Schaaf assured the Board that the K-12 literacy model would be a guided aligned curriculum for all students.

Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reviewed the financial report for the month of December 2010. He said the General Fund balance was $6.8 million with commitments of over $3 million by the end of the year. At this time, some of the commitments expected to impact the General Fund Balance are: federal Edujobs recovered by the state, enrollment decline, energy grant matching dollars, state budget reductions, and the literacy adoption.
