STANWOOD-CAMANO SCHOOL DISTRICT 
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE May 17, 2011, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
 
CALL TO ORDER
Student Advisor, Whitney Hensel, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Administration & Resource Center boardroom, under the direction of Board President, Roger Myers. Board members in attendance were Ken Christoferson, Pat Patterson, Darlene Hartley, Julie Dean, and Roger Myers. Whitney Hensel and Jordan Taylor, Student Advisors, were present. Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA 
Roger Myers made a motion to approve the agenda. Julie Dean seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Darlene Hartley made a motion to approve the Minutes of the May 3, 2011, Regular Board Meeting. Pat Patterson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously. 

Pat Patterson made a motion to approve the Special Minutes of the May 10, 2011, Auditor’s Exit Conference. Ken Christoferson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously. Roger Myers recused himself because he did not attend the special meeting.

There were no comments.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

DONATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS
Darlene Hartley read the donations from Callies Photography and the Junior League of Seattle. Darlene Hartley also read recognitions of the success of the high school History Day Team and Schack Art Center Awards.

Julie Dean and members of the Board recognized Whitney Hensel and Jordan Taylor, Student Advisors, for their service and participation on the Board of Directors for 2010-11. 

Julie Dean recognized Adam Stewart, reporter for the Stanwood/Camano News, for his professionalism in reporting on educational issues. Mr. Stewart resigned from his position at the Stanwood/Camano News.

Dr. Linda Littlefield, Executive Director of Human Resources, recognized the staff retirees:
Certificated staff: Jon Evavold, Gale Caruso-Forrest, Vicki Rensink, Eloise Zelk, Margaret (Penny) Buse, Kimberly Hayes, and JoAnne Stone. Jacqueline Burkhalter was unable to attend. Classified staff: Jacqueline Ford. Margaret Hoiby and Bert Carlson were unable to attend.

RECEPTION
Student Advisor Jordan Taylor recessed the meeting for fifteen minutes for a reception to honor the retirees. He reconvened the meeting at 8:00 p.m.

APRIL FINANCIAL REPORT 
Gary Platt reviewed the monthly financial report for the month of April 2011.  He discussed the executive summary, General Fund revenues and expenditures, and noted the increase in diesel costs was $118,000 above budget.  The transportation department is expecting two more shipments of diesel worth $22,000.00 each.

CONSENT AGENDA
Roger Myers made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items 1-6, listed below.  Pat Patterson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

1.    Donations
2.    Field Trip for Stanwood High School History Club National Competition, June 11-17, 2011, College Part, Maryland.
3.    Second Reading/Adoption of Replaced Policy 3207, Prohibition of Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying.
4.    Revised Director Area Redistricting Plan.
5.    Personnel Consent Agenda.
6.    Bills and Payroll.

STUDENT ADVISORS’ REPORT
Whitney Hensel said that Lincoln Hill High School graduation would be held June 6th at 6:30 PM in the high school Performing Arts Center. Whitney plans on attending the Northwest Hair Academy, a Paul Mitchell cosmetology school.

Jordan Taylor announced that the 8th grade parent information night was May 23rd for the incoming freshmen class; spring choir and band concerts was the week of May 16th; and high school graduation would be held June 10th at the Bob Larson Stadium. Jordan plans on attending Western Washington University, majoring in English, and plans to become a teacher.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Ken Christoferson thanked the student advisors for their contributions on the Board and shared his appreciation for the leadership the retiring staff gave to the District for so many years.

Pat Patterson praised Jordan Taylor’s testimony to the retiring teachers for their inspiration.

Darlene Hartley thanked the human resources’ department for their tributes to the retirees and reception.

Julie Dean thanked the retirees for their skill and passion that they gave to the District and she also thanked the student advisors for their service.

Roger Myers was happy for each of the retirees and hoped many would return to volunteer. He also thanked the student advisors for their leadership.

ADJOURNMENT
Roger Myers adjourned the Regular Meeting at 8:12 p.m.
