MINUTES OF THE MARCH 4, 2014 REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER

President Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 12:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center boardroom.

ROLL CALL

Board members in attendance were Julie Dean, Darlene Hartley, Al Schreiber, Roger Myers, and Ken Christoferson.

FLAG SALUTE
Roger Myers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Agenda for the March 4, 2014, Regular Board Meeting. Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Minutes of the February 18, 2014, Regular Board Meeting. Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS

The donations were read by Roger Myers as follows: Haggen’s School Bucks for Education donated the following:Elger Bay Elementary $48.40, Twin City Elementary $72.81, Utsalady Elementary $113.61, Port Susan Middle School $28.83, Stanwood Middle School $54.31, Lincoln Hill High School $51.53, and Stanwood High School $124.26, totaling $493.75. Other donations: J & J Custom Slaughtering and Kenneth Christoferson each donated $100.00 to the Stanwood High School FFA Dinner and Auction, “Let’s Frame It” donated mat cutting (value $200.00) for the Stanwood Middle School art department, Kay Karcher donated an Olds Ambassador Trumpet (value $300.00) to Stanwood Middle School’s music department, Dennis Newkirk donated 20 Flash Drives (value $100.00) to Port Susan Middle School, and the Employees Community Fund of the Boeing Company donated $50.00 to Utsalady Elementary and $117.50 to Elger Bay Elementary.

RECOGNITIONS

Roger Myers acknowledged Port Susan Middle School, Stanwood Middle School, and Stanwood High School's art students who received honors at the 2014 Scholastic Art Awards.

MARCH ENROLLMENT

Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reported that the enrollment for the month of March was 4,206.52 Full Time Equivalent (FTE), which was over the budgeted projection by 4.3 FTE.

CONSENT AGENDA

Al Schreiber made a motion to approve consent agenda items 1-7, listed below. Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously. 

  1. Stanwood High School Field Trips: (a) Boys Swim Team to State Competition, February 20-22, 2014, Federal Way, Washington, (b) Boys and Girls Wrestling Team to State Competition, February 20-22, 2014, Tacoma, Washington, (c) Future Farmers of America (FFA) Team to North Central Washington Junior Livestock Show, March 27-29, 2014, Moses Lake, Washington, (d) Sports Medicine Team to State Competition, April 24-26, 2014, Yakima, Washington, (e) Future Farmers of America (FFA) Natural Resources to State Envirothon Competition, May 21-22, 2014, Carnation, Washington.

    3. Request to Solicit Students to Participate in the Intercultural Student Experiences (ISE) Summer Field Trip to Germany in 2015.

    4. Interlocal Agreement with the Northwest Educational Service District 189 for the 2013-14 Drop-Out Reengagement Program. 
  3. Authorize a Call for Diesel Fuel Bids. 
  4. Master Architect Agreement with Pelletier + Schaar Architects and Authorize the Administration to Approve Individual Scope of Work (SOW) Agreements Less Than $50,000.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS

Board members recognized the success of the boys’ basketball team and other athletes and programs who have excelled to qualify for state competition.

Ken Christoferson proudly announced the birth of his grandson on March 14.
