December 1, 2009, Regular Board Meeting

STANWOOD-CAMANO SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 1, 2009, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
 
CALL TO ORDER
Roger Myers called the meeting to order at 12:00 PM.  Board members in attendance were Ken Christoferson, Julie Dean, Darlene Hartley, Pat Patterson, and Roger Myers.  Roger Myers led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA 
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the agenda.  Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Pat Patterson made a motion to approve the Minutes of the November 17, 2009, Regular Board Meeting.  Ken Christoferson seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.  

OATH OF OFFICE
Dr. Jean Shumate, Superintendent, administered the Board of Directors Oath of Office to Roger Myers and Patrick Patterson. 

REORGANIZATION OF BOARD
Darlene Hartley nominated Roger Myers for Board president.  Ken Christoferson moved that the nominations be closed; there was no objection and it was voted on and approved unanimously. 

Darlene Hartley nominated Julie Dean for Board vice-president and there were no other nominations; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS
Theresa Metzger, Stanwood Camano Area Foundation (SCAF) Director, announced that SCAF is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary; has awarded every participating senior a scholarship for the past 3 years; is awarding music scholarships to middle and high school students; and noted that an article in the Stanwood/Camano NEWS listed all of the SCAF scholarships and colleges and universities attended by the class of 2009.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

DONATIONS 
Julie Dean read the donations from Pilchuck Audubon Society, AMF Farms, Steve and Clarene Ricarte, and Perry Watkins. 

CONSENT AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda, listed below.  Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and passed unanimously.
1.    Donations.
2.    2009-10 Contract with YMCA Camp Seymour for Stanwood Elementary Outdoor Education Camp.
3.    Stanwood Elementary Outdoor Education Field Trip, April 5-7, 2010.
4.    2009-10 Contract with YMCA Camp Seymour for Twin City Elementary Outdoor Education Camp.
5.    Twin City Elementary Outdoor Education Field Trip, April 5-7, 2010.
6.    Stanwood High School Technology Student Association (TSA) State Officers Field Trip, March 18-20, 2010.
7.    Cooperative Agreements with Accredited Universities to accept student teachers: a) Antioch University, b) Whitworth University, c) Washington State University, d) Western Washington University, e) City University, f) Everett Community College.
8.    Personnel Consent Agenda.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Ken Christoferson, said he attended the Annual Washington State School Directors Association Conference, along with Darlene Hartley and Roger Myers, and said the information was very beneficial.

Pat Patterson congratulated Director Christoferson for completing the WSSDA leadership class.

Darlene Hartley was grateful of the board members who contribute at the state level.  She said their involvement was beneficial to all.

Julie Dean said that a home tour was scheduled for December 4-5th to raise funds for scholarships.

Ken Christoferson said the board leadership is clearly recognized and each board member has a role. 

Roger Myers said that the other board members were the finest people to work with, they are dedicated and each strives for quality education for students.  He also noted that Darlene Hartley works on the state nomination committee for WSSDA.

ADJOURNMENT
Roger Myers adjourned the Regular Meeting at 12:17 PM.
