MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 20, 2015, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.
ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Julie Dean, Al Schreiber, Darlene Hartley, Roger Myers, and Ken Christoferson. Student Advisors, Riley Cunningham and Silver Merideth, were in attendance.
FLAG SALUTE
Tod Klundt, Stanwood Middle School Principal, led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Agenda for the October 20, 2015, Regular Board Meeting. Roger Myers seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Minutes of the September 15, 2015, Regular Board Meeting. Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

There were no comments.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:
DONATIONS
Silver Merideth and Riley Cunningham presented the donations as follows: (1) Sahara Pizza donated proceeds from Pizza Night for Schools, $150, to Utsalady Elementary and (2) Stanwood Booster Club's Sports Account, provided transportation costs, $265.68, to transport the Stanwood High School cross-country team to Seattle.
HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, AND BULLYING POSTER CONTEST
Lloy Schaaf, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, announced the winners of the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Poster Contest. (Dr. Schaaf also serves as the Officer for the district's reporting of harassment.) The Kiwanis Club helped support the awards and Emily Harpel presented gift certificates from Subway and Sweet Bliss to the award recipients. The following list of students received recognition:

EMPLOYEE AWARDS
Joy Rusko introduced the employee awards as follows:
• Annie Houk, Stanwood Elementary Secretary, received the Classified Employee of the Month Award for September. Principal Barbara Marsh recognized Annie and read her nomination on behalf of Debbie Carr, parent and volunteer, who was unable to attend. Director Julie Dean presented Annie with a certificate on behalf of the Board.
• Bryan Olsen, Stanwood High School history teacher, received the Teacher of the Month Award for September. Principal Christine Del Pozo recognized Byran and read his nominations on behalf of Ella Blackwood and former student Robin Blackwood, who were unable to attend. Roger Myers presented Bryan with a certificate on behalf of the Board.
Dr. Shumate presented the awardees with pictures for their schools. Tony Warner, Vice President, Store Manager at Stanwood Umpqua Bank, sponsors the award and he presented gift certificates from Dos Reales and Stanwood Cinemas.
RECESS
Ken Christoferson recessed the meeting at 7:28 PM for five minutes. The meeting reconvened at 7:37 PM.
FINANCIAL REPORTS FOR AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER
Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the financial reports for August and September. He reviewed the Executive Summary, the General Fund Balance Reports, the Manager's Expenditures Report and the Food Service Report.
CONSENT AGENDA
Ken Christoferson removed item #4, Bills and Payroll from the Consent Agenda for discussion.
Darlene Hartley made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items 1-3, listed below. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
1. Second Reading/Adoption of New Student Policy 3419, Automated External Defibrillators.
2. Educational Service District 112 (ESD 112) E-Rate Consortium.

DISCUSSION:
#4, Bills and Payroll: Mr. Christoferson removed voucher #42492, Stanwood Redi-Mix from the bills because of a conflict.
VOTE: Roger Myers made a motion to approve the remaining bills and payroll. Julie Dean seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved.

VOTE: Al Schreiber made a motion to approve voucher #42492 for $233.19 to Stanwood Redi-Mix. Darlene Hartley seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved. Ken Chirstoferson abstained from the vote.

STUDENT ADVISORS REPORT
Silver Merideth shared that Lincoln Hill High School students and staff performed at their "open-mic" assembly, the school received an air-hockey and foosball table, and the Everett Herald reporter interviewed a "Super Kid" from LHHS.
Riley Cunningham reported that Stanwood High School's activities surrounding Homecoming were successful and participation and school spirit have increased, a signed poster honoring the passing of Austin Esuary was given to his parents, a male beauty pageant is being planned, Mr. Olsen was selected as the Teacher of the Month, and plans are being made for Veterans Day assemblies.
ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Al Schreiber thanked Lloy Schaaf and praised the students who made posters for the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying poster contest. Thanks also went to Gary Platt for his financial reports and congratulations to Sarah Arney, Stanwood/Camano News reporter, for winning an award for a short personality profile story in Washington Newspaper Publishers Association 2015 Better Newspaper Contest.
Darlene Hartley also congratulated Sarah Arney for her writing award.
Julie Dean commented that she enjoyed celebrating the students and staff for their awards.
Superintendent Shumate announced that Silver Merideth was the Lincoln Hill High School student interviewed by the Everett Herald reporter for the upcoming article, "Herald's Super Kid." Board members responded with, "Congratulations Silver!"
ADJOURNMENT
Director Christoferson adjourned the regular meeting at 7:55 PM.
