BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 5, 2016, REGULAR BOARD MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
Ken Christoferson called the meeting to order at 5:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Christoferson excused the Board Members at 5:01 PM into Executive Session to discuss with legal counsel, representing the district, matters relating to district enforcement actions for approximately 30 minutes. At 5:28 PM Director Myers announced the executive session was extended for approximately 10 minutes. No action was taken.

RECONVENE REGULAR MEETING
Mr. Christoferson reconvened the Regular Board Meeting at 5:36 PM.

ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Julie Dean, Al Schreiber, Natalie Hagglund, Roger Myers, and Ken Christoferson. Silver Merideth and Riley Cunningham, Student Advisors, were in attendance.

FLAG SALUTE
Ken Christoferson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Agenda for the January 5, 2016, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Al Schreiber made a motion to approve the Minutes of the December 15, 2015, Regular Board Meeting. Roger Myers seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

COMMENTS BY CITIZENS
There were no comments.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:

DONATIONS
Silver Merideth and Riley Cunningham presented the following donations: (1) Robert Riner of Firefly Images donated fall photo rebates of $389.48 to Elger Bay Elementary, $466.45 to Twin City Elementary, $431.48 to Utsalady Elementary, and $565.95 to Stanwood Elementary.

BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH
Superintendent Jean Shumate announced that January is Board Appreciation Month. She thanked the Board for their volunteer service and for doing what is best for the students of Stanwood-Camano School District. Certificates of recognition from the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) were presented to all of the board members and student advisors for their valuable service to the children of Washington State.

Dr. Shumate also presented certificates of achievement to Natalie Hagglund for completing the WSSDA Foundations of Leadership and Advanced Leadership sessions and Al Schreiber was awarded with the Advanced Leadership certificate.

ENROLLMENT REPORTS
Gary Platt, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the enrollment for the month of January. The actual enrollment was 4,224.67 Full Time Equivalent (FTE).

CONSENT AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items 1-4, listed below. Al Schreiber seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

1. Donations
2. Final Acceptance Date for the Stanwood High School Track Replacement, Relocation of Portable Classrooms, and Stanwood Elementary Exterior Weatherproofing Projects Effective January 5, 2016.
3. Stanwood Middle School Industrial Arts Room Remodel Bid Award to JT&T Construction.
4. Personnel Consent Agenda

STUDENT ADVISORS REPORT
Silver Merideth reported that Lincoln Hill High School students met with youth suicide prevention staff to gain information and to get resources for help. A few students will be chosen to receive suicide prevention training skills. Also, Lincoln Hill High School student leaders are planning after-school activity clubs.

Riley Cunningham shared that Stanwood High School will have a guest speaker for the Martin Luther King Jr. assemblies on January 15, class officers are setting goals for 2016, the winter formal dance will be held February 27th, and the senior "spring fling" will be held in late March. Also, an application (app) is being created for Stanwood High School.

ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Board members expressed appreciation for being honored and Dr. Shumate stated that this is a big year: the Maintenance and Operations Levy is on the ballot February 9th and the high school planning committee will continue to work on a high school proposal.

ADJOURNMENT
Director Christoferson adjourned the regular meeting at 5:56 PM.
