The Board of Directors recognized Madi Howe, Ayla Gonzalez, and Flor Garcia (pictured left to right) as Shining Stars at the board meeting November 20th.  The Shining Star Award acknowledges students from elementary through high school who demonstrate positive accomplishments, is hard working, has overcome obstacles, and continues to progress toward their educational goals.


Madi is a 5th grade student at Cedarhome Elementary. Principal Jeff Lofgren and teacher, Kris Wayland, recognized Madi for being responsible, having tenacity to complete homework and for being considerate of others.

Elger Bay Elementary Principal, Victor Hanzeli, and teachers Nicale Van Scoy and Stacy Johnson, recognized Ayla for her outstanding social and academic progress.  Ayla is a 5th grade student who has become a leader and has a great sense of humor.

Christine Gruver, Stanwood High School Principal, and teachers, Robin Ringland and Ella Blackwood recognized Flor Garcia for her success in overcoming obstacles, her work ethic, and her desire for learning.  Flor is a senior at Stanwood High School.

The Board of Directors awarded certificates of achievement to all of the recipients. The sponsor of the awards, Tony Warner, Sterling Bank Manager, presented gifts and gift certificates from Snow Goose Bookstore and Viking Video. 
Friends, family, and staff members were in attendance to honor their Shining Stars.
