rachel dillon2.jpgsmith,.jpgtaven deberry.jpg.jpgThree deserving students received the Board of Directors' Shining Star Award at the April 20th board meeting.  Family, friends, and staff filled the board room to honor our Shining Stars.

Utsalady Elementary staff unanimously selected 5th grade student, Rachel Dillon.  Rachel was recognized for her pleasant personality and pretty smile.

Port Susan Elementary selected 8th grade student, Kenny Smith.  Principal Mike Olson said the Kenny has had some "twists and turns" and has overcome middle schools' "rocky roads."  He read statements from many of Kenny's teachers who said he is congenial, upbeat, friendly, and strives to do his best.  

Saratoga School introduced
8th grade student Taven Deberry as receivng the Shining Star.  One of his teachers listed his personal accomplishments and described him as being diligent, sensitive, and one who perserveres.  Curt Chester, lead teacher, also shared how much Taven's fellow classmates depended on his knowledge and leadership.

The Shining Star is awarded to selected students, elementary through high school, that have demonstrated outstanding achievement, continuous improvement, or have overcome challenges.  Sterling Savings Bank (Stanwood branch) and Lenz Enterprises are the sponsors of the award program in partnership with Stanwood Cinemas and Camano Plaza Video.
