Tessa Karlberg received the Teacher of the Month Award for February at the Board of Directors' meeting March 16, 2010. Tessa is a 2nd grade teacher at Stanwood Elementary and was nominated by four of her former students, Savannah, Cristina, Brooke, and Justice, and selected by committee. In their nomination they said, "Mrs. Karlberg always made learning so much fun. She would always help and encourage us. Mrs. Karlberg was one of our favorite teachers. She never picked favorites and she always told us when we did a good job. Mrs Karlberg made us feel so welcome we never hesitated to ask for help."
Diana Mailloux, Utsalady Elementary 4th grade teacher, received the Teacher of the Month Award for March. She was nominated by Julie Knight, Utsalady Elementary reading/math support teacher, and selected by a committee of community members and one school district employee. Diana's nomination described her as a quiet hero. Mrs. Knight said, "When Diana speaks, she poses thought provoking questions and a point of view that helps the rest of us see another side to an issue. She is an advocate for all students, wanting only the best practices in all subjects to be employed."
The Teacher of the Month recognition award is given monthly throughout the school year. The award recipients are selected from nominations from parents, staff, students, and community members, and are reviewed by a committee of community members and one school district employee. The awards are sponsored by Sterling Savings Bank and Lenz Enterprises, in partnership with Dos Reales and Stanwood Cinemas.
