karen_white.jpgUtsalady Elementary Kindergarten teacher Karen White is the March Teacher of the Month! Karen received two nominations from parents with children in her classroom.

One of the nominations said, “I was extremely nervous about my son starting Kindergarten but after meeting Karen and seeing how she ran her classroom, I knew I had nothing to worry about.”

Val Schroeder, a Stanwood High School English teacher, was recently featured in an Everett Herald article for her dedication in establishing wildlife habitats in hundreds of back yards on Camano Island. jane_lenz4.jpgCedarhome Elementary 1st grade teacher Jane Lenz couldn’t hide her shock and excitement Wednesday morning as district cabinet members announced that she is the February Teacher of the Month!

Jane's colleagues wore big smiles as Kathie Norris explained why she nominated Jane for the award. “I think that all of us at Cedarhome would agree that Jane goes above and beyond each day to assure that her students have what they need to succeed, that her co-workers are supported and honored in their work, and that her school is a place where relationships, kindness, and caring are at the core.”

john_yarnell.jpgPort Susan Middle School teacher John Yarnell has been selected as the January Stanwood-Camano Teacher ofthe Month.

Mr. Yarnell was nominated by one of his seventh grade students. The nomination described Mr. Yarnell as "the most kind and helpful person ever." The student continued, "When you walk in the room he always is ready to greet you. Mr. Yarnell respects everyone to his fullest ability."

mrs._shaw__students-web.jpgOne of Sabrina Shaw's AP history students told her that it was going to be a good day. She was right. Shortly after, Mrs. Shaw was named the Stanwood-Camano Teacher of the Month!

mrs._smith.jpgStanwood Elementary second grade teacher Brandi Smith was "still in shock" hours after ten of her students announced to the Stanwood Elementary staff that she had been selected as the November Stanwood-Camano Teacher of the Month.

Mrs. Smith's students described how she believes in every child and made learning fun for them. "She always encouraged us to do math we thought we could not do. She believed in us. She was right, we could do it," explained one student. Another student described Mrs. Smith as her "favorite teacher" because she made reading fun and "she made me feel smart even though it was sometimes really hard for me."

julie_knight_-_october_tom_5-edited2.jpgJulie Knight thought Wednesday would be a normal day as the reading specialist at Utsalady Elementary School. She was stunned when Stanwood-Camano staff showed up to honor her as the first "Stanwood-Camano Teacher of the Month."

2008_retirees.jpgSeven retiring Stanwood-Camano School District employees were honored for their years of service in Stanwood-Camano schools at the Tuesday, May 20th school board meeting.

Jim Ross, Sharon Raider, Mary Hickman, Ruth Miller, Becky Ball, Sandy Auckland, and Jo Jeffrey have made wonderful contributions to the district and will be greatly missed. Best wishes for Jim, Sharon, Mary, Ruth, Becky, Sandy, and Jo as they retire.
