The board recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of involving members of the public in the meetings. To permit fair and orderly expression of such comment, the board will provide a period during the meeting when visitors may make:
- formal presentations
- seek clarification, or
- discuss non-agenda items limited to the three minutes
If you wish to address the Board during a meeting, please arrive to the SCSD Board Room 15 minutes early to complete a form and give it to the school board president PRIOR to the beginning of the meeting. Speakers must state their name and any school affiliation. The board president has the responsibility to terminate any statement which is too lengthy, personally directed to a district employee, student, parent, or community member, abusive, obscene, or irrelevant.
Formal presentations: Formal presentations must be submitted to the secretary of the school board, the superintendent, by Monday the week prior to the meeting in order that the business may be reviewed for the placement of the agenda. Presentations may be limited to five minutes at the discretion of the president of the board.
Clarifications: Individuals who wish clarification during the time the board is discussing a particular agenda item are to raise their hands. When recognized by the board president, the individual will be allowed a brief moment to express the need for clarification.
Non-agenda items: The agenda contains a place for communications from the audience about non-agenda items. The board president will announce the time.
