Letter to Twin City Elementary Parents:
Dear Parents & Staff,
The Snohomish Health District contacted the Stanwood Camano School District (SCSD) on March 9, 2017, to inform us that Twin City Elementary had one confirmed case of a student having the mumps. (See letter to Superintendent Jean Shumate: Mumps letter to Shumate ). SCSD and the Health District are working closely together to implement response plans that have been used in the statewide mumps outbreak, including communications to the families and staff. A copy of the Snohomish Health Department's letter to Twin City Elementary Parents and Students is available here: Mumps letter to TCE .
The majority of our staff and students at Twin City Elementary have been immunized, but we do have some who have not provided documentation of immunization. Those staff and students will be excluded until the 26th day after exposure or until they provide proof of immunization. Exemptions for personal, medical, or religious reasons will be honored, but those claiming exemptions will also be excluded from school or until the 26th day after exposure.
Mumps is a contagious viral illness that is most effectively prevented through immunization. More information is available through the Washington Department of Health. While this case is currently only impacting Twin City Elementary, we encourage students and staff district-wide to ensure their immunization records are up to date.
Student safety is the District's top priority, and we will continue to keep you informed of any updated information we receive from the Snohomish Health District. If you have any questions or concerns about the notices, please do not hesitate to contact the District office at 360-629-1222 or Maurene Stanton at 360-965-8276. If you have concerns about your child's health, please seek the advice of your healthcare provider.
